BIOGRAPHY
Professor Cheng is the Emeritus Professor of the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. After graduated with MB BS degree from the University of Hong Kong in 1976, he was awarded the Commonwealth Medical Fellowships to further study and training in orthopaedics at the University of Oxford and the University of Edinburgh in 1982-83 He was awarded the degree of Doctor of Medicine (with merits) by The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1999.
Professor Cheng joined The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1983 and had served as Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, Sub-Dean (Medical Education) and Associate Dean (Education) of the Faculty of Medicine, University Dean of Students and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (2002-2012). He has served as member of University Grants Committee (2007-13) and lately as member of the Research Grant Council (2013-16).
Professor Cheng is a paediatric orthopaedics specialist with special research interests in the etiopathogenesis of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, congenital muscular torticollis, bone mineral and bone health research and biomaterial basic science and applied studies. He is Co-Director of the Joint Scoliosis Research Centre of The Chinese University of Hong Kong and Nanjing University.
Professor Cheng has published over 360 publications in peer-reviewed international journals, over 500 conference presentations, contributed to 19 book chapters and received more than 30 research related awards. He serves on the editorial boards of a number of international professional journals. He was president of the Hong Kong Orthopaedic Association and fellow and member of over 20 local and prestigious international professional and medical organisations including the POSNA, SRS, IPOTT, IFPOS, IRSSD, APOA.
