BIOGRAPHY
Professor Simon Chow is a human biologist by training from the University of Toronto (2002). He joined the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology in 2005 and pursued further training and obtained his MSc in Biomedical Engineering in 2009 and subsequently his PhD in Orthopaedics and Traumatology in 2014.
His research focuses on tackling musculoskeletal ageing problems. Fragility fracture is highly associated with sarcopenia and fall. His bench side research include the biology and the enhancement of osteoporotic fracture healing by mechanical stimulation; the impairment and restoration of inflammatory response during the fracture healing process; the application of bio-functionalized 3D printed metal implants for osteoporotic fracture healing; and nutritional and physical intervention to control the progression of sarcopenia. Furthermore, he is the coordinator of the Community Fall Prevention Campaign that is established since year 2000 carrying the mission to transfer the most updated musculoskeletal health knowledge directly to community older people. He is member of the Orthopaedics Research Society (USA) and International Section of Fracture Repair (ISFR); member of the Society of Sarcopenia, Cachexia and Wasting Disorders (SCWD, Germany); and member of the Editorial Review Board of the Journal of Orthopaedic Research (JOR, USA). Professor Chow has published over 30 articles in international peer-reviewed journal articles, over 50 conference abstracts, 3 book chapters and successful track records in attracting competitive external research funding.
On the technical side, Simon Chow has over 15 year of research experience in orthopaedics and traumatology. He is the technical specialist and the manager of the pre-clinical MicroCT laboratory, the coordinating officer of the department postgraduate training workshop and animal experimentation.
