Professor LIN Sien 林思恩
Bachelor of Clinical Medicine (GDMU), Master of Medicine (GDMU), PhD (CUHK)
Research Assistant Professor of Orthopaedics and Traumatology
矫形外科及创伤学系研究助理教授

BIOGRAPHY
Professor Lin obtained his medical degrees from the Guangdong Medical University (GDMU) and his PhD in Orthopaedics and Traumatology from CUHK in 2015. He pursued his postdoctoral training in the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology of CUHK (2016-2019) and in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Stanford University (2019-2021). He has published over 60 publications in peer-reviewed international journals (H-index 25) and serves as a guest editor of Frontiers in Pharmacology and Journal of Orthopaedic Translation and as a reviewer of several international journals, including Biomaterials, Stem Cell Research & Therapy, and Materials Science & Engineering C. Professor Lin is a member of the Orthopaedic Research Society (ORS) and the International Chinese Musculoskeletal Research Society (ICMRS). He also serves as a member of the Clinical Research Committee and as an adjunct professor of Orthopaedic Surgery in the Affiliated Hospital of Guangdong Medical University, China.
Professor Lin is passionate about the research and development (R&D) of regenerative strategies for traumatic cartilage and bone defects and novel therapeutic strategies for osteoarthritis and osteoporosis. His work focuses on using biological approaches to achieve functional cartilage regeneration through stem cell therapeutics and biomimetic hydrogels. Professor Lin also specializes in bone tissue engineering using 3D printed porous scaffolds, porous hydrogels, stem cells, and the distraction osteogenesis technique to promote bone defect healing. Within the field of tissue engineering, his work has been published in Biomaterials, Osteoarthritis Cartilage, Stem Cell Research & Therapy, Science Advances, etc. His research in tissue engineering was funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC). Outside of the field of tissue engineering, Professor Lin has also worked on the R&D of bioactive small molecules derived from Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for the treatment of osteoarthritis and osteoporosis. In this field, his work has been published in Calcified Tissue International, European Journal of Pharmacology, Journal of Orthopaedic Translation, etc. His work in TCM has been funded by the General Research Fund (GRF, Co-I) and the Health and Medical Research Fund (HMRF, Co-I). Professor Lin was a recipient of the Student and Young Investigator Award (Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine International Society, TERMIS) and Best Poster awards in academic meetings held by ORS, ICMRS, and CUHK.
