Abstract:Mercury pollution has become a major global issue. At present, mercury pollution mainly comes from mercury-contained waste gas, water and residues which unintentionally emitted during coal-burning and mining process, as well as mercury-contained waste produced in mercury-related industry. According to the final forms of pollutants, the main mercury pollution abatement technologies are classified as mercury removal or recycling ones in atmosphere, water and soil. In this review, the global patents related to mercury pollution abatement technology in Derwent Innovations Index were analyzed. Information related to the main countries, important applicants, key technologies was identified, and the activity characteristic and current status of mercury-related patents have been studied since 1949. The results will provide reference for R&D layout and policy making of related institutions in China.
