廖少林教授于清华大学和美国威斯康星大学麦迪逊分校 (University of Wisconsin, Madison, UW-Madison) 分别获得材料科学与工程的学士和电子与计算机工程的博士。同时还获得了材料科学和电子工程的双硕士,均在UW-Madison取得。曾先后在纽约城市大学(City University of New York, CUNY)皇后学院(Queens College)的物理系和美国能源部的第一个国家实验室-阿贡国家实验室 (Argonne National Laboratory , ANL)?的工程物理部门进行了2任博士后的多学科交叉融合科研。并于2009年11月在CUNY被提升为兼职助理教授?(Adjunct Assistant Professor) 和2013年11月在 ANL 被提升为长聘电子工程师(Electrical Engineer)。2019年2月被聘任为美国芝加哥伊利诺伊理工大学(Illinois Institute of Technology, IIT)电子与计算机工程系教授?(Professor)。2021年2月,被中山大学“****”引进为领军人才-学科带头人,教授和博士生导师。

研究方向:
“AI-电磁波与光”多学科交叉融合与创新课题组涉及电子与信息工程学院3个方向(信息与通讯工程、电子科学与技术和光学工程)。主要集中在人工智能(AI)驱动的毫米波/太赫兹5G/6G超高速通信、自动驾驶/无人机导航激光雷达、毫米波/太赫兹雷达、光纤激光器及微纳光子学技术、涡旋角动量电磁学、电磁与光传感、无损检测(NDE/NDT)、超分辨率成像与倒转成像、大规模MIMO天线阵列模拟仿真设计与测量技术、快速计算电磁学(Computational Electromagnetics, CEM)算法、大数据与AI和超级计算机等。“AI-电磁波与光”多学科交叉融合科研团队与全球一流团队展开合作,包括中国科学院院士,清华大学,华为研究中心,美国哈佛大学(Harvard University)和美国工程院院士等。
