Dr. Charlie Q. L. Xue has designed buildings in China and the USA for the past 30 more years. He has taught architecture at Shanghai Jiaotong University, University of Texas in the USA and City University of Hong Kong. His teaching ranges from Ph.D. to bachelor degree students on design studio (Y1, 2, 3 and 4), architectural history and theory. He trained and graduated the first batch Ph.D. students of architecture at CityU. An author of 14 books, 30 book chapters and 130 academic articles published in China and abroad, Xue's research focuses on the topics of architectural design globalization, post-war Hong Kong architecture and high density architectural design. His publications appear in the 'Journal of Architecture and Planning Research', 'The Journal of Architecture', 'Urban Design International', 'Journal of Urban Design', 'Cities', 'Habitat International', 'A + U' (Tokyo) and Chinese journals, such as 'Architectural Journal', 'The Architect', 'World Architecture', 'Time + Architecture' and 'Taiwan Architects'. Charlie's books are collected by world's main libraries including the American Congress Library and British Library.Charlie is the principal investigator of over 20 research projects funded from National Natural Science Foundation of China, Sumitomo Foundation of Japan, Hong Kong government and City University of Hong Kong. The completed and on-going research projects include "Chinese architecture since 1980

state-owned design institutes in China" and "Chinese grand theaters in the 21st century". His book "Hong Kong Architecture 1945-2015: from colonial to global" won commendation in the Bruno Zevi Book Award of International Committee of Architectural Critics, 2017. Charlie is the editorial board member of international journal and external examiner for graduate students of universities in Hong Kong, Chinese mainland, Australia and the USA. An award-winning designer and writer, he has led students to win the design competitions both in China and abroad. He consults for the public and private sectors extensively on urban and architectural design in China, Hong Kong and the USA.
