The consensus of "Yinren Lüqian(Shang Clan migrated frequently)" has been reached in Chinese academic circles. However, the scale and volume of the Shang Clan mobility in a given spatial region remain poorly understood. Archeological researches indicate that the proto-Shang cultural remains were distributed mainly in northern Henan Province and southern Hebei Province along the east side of the Taihang Mountains, and it seemed that the populations always migrated in this area. The Nancheng Cemetery(36°30'24″N, 114°22'55″E) is located on the southeast piedmont of the Taihang Mountains, and in the north-west Nancheng village, Nancheng Town, Cixian County, Handan City, Hebei Province, China. Most cultural deposits and cemeteries in the Nancheng cemetery mainly were dated to the proto-Shang culture(ca. 2000~1600 BC). In order to investigate the extent of the population movements and cultural communications during the proto-Shang culture, here 5 pig teeth and 20 human teeth from the Nancheng cemetery were selected for strontium isotopes analysis. Concretely speaking, the number of samples of pigs and humans tooth dentin and enamel was 10 and 42 respectively. Results show that mean 87Sr/86Sr ratios from 19 individuals display considerable isotopic variability(the range of 87Sr/86Sr ratios of 19 individuals'enamel is 0.710936~0.713751, with mean values of 0.7123210±0.000787, n=19), and 15 individuals(M10, M26, M21, M44, M52, M55, M59, M75, M80, M88, M91, M28, M51, M56 and M70) are distinguished as migrants during their infancy based on the local strontium isotope range of 0.711614~0.712046 defined by 5 pigs tooth enamel, indicating that a highly migratory behavior in the Nancheng cemetery. However, a limited quantity of pigs teeth selected in this study could cause a relatively narrow local strontium isotope range of the Nancheng cemetery. To better understand what the situation of the local strontium isotope range is, more work are under way. Based on the archaeological contexts of the Nancheng cemetery and the Liuzhuang cemetery, we infer that some people in the Nancheng cemetery might come from the North China, Shandong Peninsula, Shanxi and other areas. Obviously the phenomenon of diversification origins of the populations help to make the proto-Shang culture more vigorous and creative, which might have played an active role in the development and strengthen of the culture.
