Expertise SummaryDr Bencan Tang's expertise lies in the construction of complex molecules, both computationally and experimentally. She worked on different types of secondary metabolites, including alkaloids, pepitides and terpenes; and accomplished the syntheses of three marine diterpenes: deoxypukalide, bipinnatin J and intricarene. She is interested in understanding fundamental chemistry problems using computational methods, including investigation of novel reaction mechanisms, prediction and design of new reactions, reagents and catalysts. By working with colleagues at UNNC, she also contributes in the fields of renewable energy, biodegradable material and marine natural product synthesis using synthetic and computational chemistry as tools.
