LionelM.NiearnedtheB.S.degreeinelectricalengineeringfromNationalTaiwanUniversityin1973,theM.S.degreeinelectricalandcomputerengineeringfromWayneStateUniversity,Detroit,MI,in1977,andthePh.D.degreeinelectricalandcomputerengineeringfromPurdueUniversity,WestLafayette,IN,in1980.HeisaDistinguishedProfessoratShanghaiJiaoTongUniversity.HeisalsoaChairProfessorintheComputerScienceandEngineeringDepartmentatHKUST.HeservedastheDepartmentHeadfrom2002to2008.HealsoservesasDirectorofHKUSTChinaMinistryofEducation/MicrosoftResearchAsiaITKeyLab,DirectorofHKUSTFokYingTungGraduateSchoolDigitalLifeResearchCenter,andChiefScientistoftheNationalBasicResearchProgramofChina(973Program)onWirelessSensorNetworks.BeforejoiningHKUSTinJuly2002,hewasaprofessorinComputerScienceandEngineeringDepartmentatMichiganStateUniversity,wherehestartedhisacademiccareerin1981.Hehasdirectlysupervised35Ph.D.studentsandhaspublishedover80refereedjournalarticlesandover200refereedconferencespapersintheareasofsensornetworks,parallelarchitectures,distributedprocessing,high-speednetworks,VLSIdesignautomation,operatingsystems,softwaretools,faulttolerantcomputing,parallelcompilers,andbenchmarkingtechniques.Hisresearchpapershavebeenhighlycitedforover5000times.Hereisthelistofhistop10highlycitedpapersaccordingtoGoogleScholar.ForthosewhoareinterestedinbeingmyPhDormasterstudentsatShanghaiJiaoTongUniversity,pleasecontactmyassistantDrYanminZhu(yzhu@cs.sjtu.edu.cn).
