A passively Q-switched Ho,Pr:LiLuF4 laser at 2.95 mu m was demonstrated by using a MoS2 saturable absorber, which was prepared by a liquid phase exfoliation method. Under an absorbed pump power of 3.77 W, the maximum average output power of 70 mW was obtained with a repetition of 85.8 kHz and a pulse duration of 621 ns. The results reveal that Ho3+/Pr3+-codoped LiLuF4 crystal is a promising candidate to generate 3-mu m pulsed laser.
