Er3+, Yb3+ codoped CaNb2O6 thin films have been successfully prepared on Si(100) substrates by pulsed laser deposition. The effects of the substrate temperature on the crystallinity, morphology, and emission characteristics of Er3+, Yb3+ codoped CaNb2O6 films were studied. Results show that the substrate temperature during growth of Er3+, Yb3+ codoped CaNb2O6 films affects the film's grain size and hence influences the upconversion luminescence properties. The grain size of Er3+, Yb3+ codoped CaNb2O6 films increases with the increasing substrate temperature. Upconversion luminescence of the Er3+, Yb3+ codoped CaNb2O6 films is enhanced by increasing the grain size of the films.
