5. Research and Dissertations
5.1 Proposal
(1) Upon the completion of the credit points, the graduates can apply for thesis-related research, but 4 comprehensive reports pertaining to the speciality should precede the preliminary conference.
(2) The preliminary conference takes place in the first term of the second academic year. The theme, based on the speciality, should evolve around the scientific research and economic construction. The preliminary report should encompass the prevailing situation, the impact of the theme, the specific content, time-table and the expected results, etc in excess of 5000 words.
(3) The preliminary report is to be assessed by at least three teachers with senior academic titles on an open basis.
5.2 In-progress report
At the middle of writing, candidates should submit reports concerning dissertation so as to ensure the dissertation may proceed as schedule. If the warp is rather big, warning will be given.
5.3 Oral defense of the dissertation
(1) Qualifications
A published or accepted article in key foreign journal or national core journal is prerequisite to the acquisition of the master's degree. The thesis, after being examined and approved by three professors (inclusive of the tutor), will be further assessed by experts from both in and outside the university.
The academic degree-related assessment is made on the basis of dual-sampling appraisal as stipulated by Shanghai Municipality and SU Academic Titles Office. Those who fail are disqualified from academic degrees or a renewed thesis is required.
(2) Dissertation examination and approval in form of correspondence and oral defense
Postgraduates working for academic degrees are to meet all the requirements set by the university, or the conferment of academic degrees will be postponed to a later date.
