I study the intersections of education, social welfare and mental health systems, and how they condition young peoples’ capabilities. I research the convergence of these systems through the provision of school support services (social work, counselling, guidance and pastoral care), with particular emphasis on secondary and tertiary education. My research aims to deepen understanding of the needs and concerns of youth ‘at-risk’, but also the multiple professionals dedicated to supporting them (teachers, social workers, and counsellors, among others). I therefore conduct research to inform interprofessional education and practice in schools, with normative considerationsabout how/under what circumstances professionalsshould intervene upon young peoples’ lives to support their learning, aspirations, wellness and social mobility. This commitment forms the basis of two key constructs developing from my scholarship, and which form the theoretical foundation of my current research programme: Thepsy-curriculum analyseshow psychosocial interventions affect and are affected by the sociocultural, economic and policy contexts of schooling. Thepedagogical-therapeutic charts the broader assemblage of teaching, learning, assessment, prevention and intervention technologies through the promulgation of Whole School Approaches and Whole Person Development policies. I also collaborate on interdisciplinary research projects across education and the social sciences more broadly.

Frontiers of the Psy-Curriculum: Therapeutic Education, Psychosocial Intervention and Social Reproduction in Hong Kong (2021-Ongoing)
Principal Investigator (Funded by the Faculty Research Fund, Faculty of Education)
This historical and empirical research study examines how social workers, counsellors and guidance teachers have intervened in educational risks and inequities since the mid-twentieth century. Employing comparative historical analysis alongside a grounded theory methodology, I am developing an interprofessional and interdisciplinary theoretical framework that illuminates the globalised culture of therapeutic and psychosocial practices in schools, with Hong Kong as a case study.
Environmentally Responsive Pedagogies to Develop “ECO (Environmentally COnscious) Advocates” for Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area (2021-Ongoing)
Co-Investigator (Funded by the Theme-based Research Seed Grant)
This study addresses environmental sustainability education in the HKSAR. This project builds on the capacity of local teachers to address the under acknowledged but escalating issue of youth climate change anxiety, through the lens of sustainable coastal waters. We are developing and researching the efficacy/impact of new pedagogic models and learning technologies that empower teachers and their students to be creators and advocates of environmental sustainability.
Research on Exploring LGBTQ Needs and Help-seeking Patterns (2020-Ongoing)
Co-Investigator (Funded by the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals)
This is an evaluation study that aims to enhance understanding of the service needs of the LGBTQ community in Hong Kong.
Leading Equity and Inclusion in Hong Kong Higher Education: A Historical Document Analysis and Campus Climate Survey of HKU Students' Experiences (2019-2021)
Co-Investigator (Funded by the Provost's Office)
This mixed-methods study focusses on understanding diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in Hong Kong higher education from historical and contemporary perspectives. We are conducting a historical document analysis of texts over the past ten years and a representative survey to uncover and represent large-scale processes and outcomes pertaining to students’ experiences of DEI
