Current research projects:Bioinspired Synthetic Micro/Nanomachines

The manufacture of autonomous nanomotors which can power nanomachines and nanofactories in a rapid and controlled manner is of great interests in nanotechnology. Biomolecular motors or Nanoscale biomotors such as kinesin, based on spontaneous comsumption of energy-rich biomolecules (e.g., ATP), are common in nature. Active motor proteins have to be purfied from natural samples through many complex procedures, reconstructed and function in a strict biological process. In other words, biomolecular motors are unstable, expensive and require higher work conditions. Obviously, they are more suitable to do biophysical research and maynot be used to make nanodevices in practice. However, such mechanical function of biological motors can provide an inspiration for the development of hybrid and synthetic nanomachines, operating on locally supplied fuels and performing various tasks ranging from drug delivery to cargo manipulation in microchip devices. Actually, efficient energy conversion systems are crucial for the successful use of nanomotors as power-generating engines for engineering nanodevices. In this project, we try to utilize various chemical reactions (such as catalytic decomposition of H2O2) on the surface of the Layer-by-Layer (LbL) assembled polymer multilayer nanostructures (capsules or tubes) to efficiently generate locomotion (propulsion power) autonomously from their surroundings (chemical). More importantly, these assembled polymer mutilayer structures could serve not only as versatile and powerful energy-efficient nanomachines, but also smart cargoes.

司铁岩/Tieyan Si


司铁岩,博士,副教授,硕士研究生导师

Tieyan Si received his Ph.D. in theoretical physics from Institute of Theoretical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (Beijing, China), in 2009. Worked as a visiting scholar in Max Planck Institute For the Physics of Complex System (Dresden, Germany) during 2009-2011. From 2011 to 2012, he worked as visiting scholar in Institute of Theoretical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Tsinghua University (Beijing, China). In 2012, he joined Harbin Institute of Technology as an associate professor. In 2015-2016, he worked as a visiting scholar in Brown University (USA). He currently is an associate professor at the Micro/Nanotechnology Research Center, Harbin Institute of Technology, China. His current research interests are dynamics of micro-/nanomotors, collective dynamics of active matters, biological physics and quantum many body physics.

林显坤/Xiankun Lin


林显坤,博士,副教授,博士研究生导师

Xiankun Lin received his PhD in chemistry from the State Key Laboratory of Supramolecular Structure and Materials, Jilin University in 2010. In 2011, he joined the Harbin Institute of Technology as an assistant professor. He currently is an associate professor at Micro/Nanotechnology Research Center, Harbin Institute of Technology, China. His current research interests are the micro/nanomotors based on assemblies.

Johannes Frueh


Johannes Frueh,博士,副教授,硕士研究生导师

Johannes Frueh got his PhD from Postdam University, Potsdam, Germany. He did a Postdoc in HIT, Harbin, China and is now an associate professor in HIT. His research interests include but are not limited to: automation, antibiofouling, drug delivery, drug release, anti-cancer treatment, biophotonic and photonic effects.

吴志光,博士,青年拔尖副教授,硕士研究生导师

Zhiguang Wu received his PhD in chemistry engineering and technology, Harbin Institute of Technology in 2015. He is currently an assistant Professor in Prof. Qiang He group at the Harbin Institute of Technology. His research is focused on the bioinspired design of self-propelled synthetic micro-/nanomotors and their biomedical applications.

吴英杰,博士,青年拔尖副教授,硕士研究生导师

Yingjie Wu received her Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering and Technology from Harbin Institute of Technology in 2015. During her Ph.D. studies, she studied as a Joint Ph. D. student in Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces (Potsdam, Germany) during 2013-2014. She worked as a research fellow in School of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore during 2015-2017. In 2017, she joined Harbin Institute of Technology as an associate professor. Her current research interests are the preparation and application of Janus micro-/nanomotors, polymer multilayer microcapsule.

高长永,博士,讲师

Changyong Gao received his PhD in chemistry engineering and technology, Harbin Institute of Technology in 2017. He is currently a lecturer at the Harbin Institute of Technology. His research is focused on the bioinspired design of synthetic micro-/nanorobot and their biomedical applications.
