William Ba-Thein, Director/Professor
William Ba-Thein is the Director of the Clinical Research Unit and Professor in Shantou University Medical College. He received medical education from Myanmar and trained in Microbiology with a PhD from the University of Tsukuba, Japan, and a fellowship from the Mayo Clinic (Rochester), USA. He worked at the University of Tsukuba and Azabu University in Japan and Thammasat University in Thailand before the current appointment with Shantou University Medical College. He has served as academic and research supervisor for graduate students and exchange scholars from various universities and institutes in Asia. He is currently promoting evidence-based medicine, clinical research, healthcare safety culture, and professional ethics in the medical college and its affiliated hospitals.

Dangui Zhang, M.B., M.Sc.
Dr Dangui Zhang is the lab manager of the Research Center of Translational Medicine in the Second Affiliated Hospital of Shantou University Medical College and an adjunct staff of Clinical Research Unit (CRU). She received her bachelor in clinical medicine from Guangdong Medical College and trained in Immunology with a master from Shantou University Medical College. She worked as a research assistant in Shantou-Oxford Clinical Research Unit (SOCRU; i.e., current CRU) until she took the managerial position in the Research Center of Translational Medicine in 2012. Her current research interest is infectious diseases including Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD), Clostridium Difficile Infection (CDI), and Hand Foot and Mouth Disease (HFMD). She is now the assistant director of Undergraduate Research Training Program (UGRTP).
Hui (Michael) Pan, M.B., MPH
Hui Pan is currently an adjunct staff of Clinical Research Unit (CRU) and a family doctor at the Longhu Hospital, the First Affiliated Hospital of Shantou University Medical College. He has worked as vice director of the Longhu Rehabilitation Center, team lead of the Home Rehabilitation Team, and vice director of the Department of Healthcare Quality Control, Longhu Hospital since 2019. He received his bachelor’s degree of Clinical Medicine from Shantou University Medical College in 2003, and then practiced urology at the Shunde Family Planning Service Center, Foshan, Guangdong until 2008. He worked at the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine as a research assistant in 2009, and at the Shantou-Oxford Clinical Research Unit (SOCRU; i.e. current CRU) as a research assistant/research associate during 2010-2016. He got trained for family medicine in Manitoba, Canada (2016-2018) and obtained his Master of Public Health (MPH) from the University of Manitoba, Canada in 2018.

Jun Zeng, M.B., Ph.D.
Dr. Jun Zeng severs as deputy director and practices in the department of endocrinology, The People's Hospital of China Three Gorges University. He received Ph.D. from Shantou University in 2013. He completed his residency in internal medicine and fellow endocrinology at The People's Hospital of China Three Gorges University. He pursued postdoctoral training in Shantou-Oxford Clinical Research Unit (SOCRU), mentored by Prof. William Ba-thein.
