研究领域与方向
1. 研究学习记忆的分子机制,开发新的药物靶点和药物,用于改善和增强正常人和老年性痴呆病 人的学习记忆能力;
2. 研究神经细胞死亡和存活的新机制,特别是内质网应激和 RNA 代谢紊乱的神经退行性致病机制, 为缓解神经退行性疾病中的神经细胞死亡提供新的药物靶点;
3. 开发新一代基因操作技术和基因治疗手段,治疗基因突变引起的神经退行性疾病和其他人类最 大遗传性疾病 。
Neurodegenerative diseases afflict millions of people worldwide, but so far no effective cure has been developed for these devastating disorders, partially due to our poor understanding of disease mechanisms. Because mouse shares over 90% gene similarity with human, to study chemical-induced mutant mice carrying neurodegenerative phenotypes will great enhance our knowledge on the disease mechanisms and accelerate the speed in identification of therapeutic interventions. In addition, our disease-orientated research on these disease-associated genes also significantly deepens our understanding on physiological functions of these genes. Our long-term goal is to combine molecular biology and mouse genetics to better understand the neurological disease mechanisms and bridge our basic researc h with therapeutic target discoveries.
