Abstract:Typical halogenated persistent organic pollutants (Hal-POPs), including polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and DDT etc., are a group of ubiquitous organic pollutants. Hal-POPs are also endocrine disruptors, which are one of the important factors that threaten human endocrine system. People usually spend more than 80% of their time indoor, and indoor environment is one of the main sources for human exposure to Hal-POPs. However, there are few studies about the effect of Hal-POPs on human endocrine system in indoor environment, especially on male reproductive health. Therefore, it is urgent to study the effect of Hal-POPs from indoor environment on human endocrine system, as well as to explore its mechanism. In order to explore such problems, this review summarizes the levels and half-lives of Hal-POPs in indoor environments and in human body. The effect of Hal-POPs to the human endocrine system, especially to male reproductive health, and its possible mechanism are also discussed. Finally, the deficiencies and prospects of the present study are analyzed.
