北京师范大学教授,认知神经科学与学习国家重点实验室主任,IDG/麦戈文脑科学研究院院长。1989年毕业于中国科学技术大学生物系生物物理专业,1994年获中科院上海生理研究所神经生物学博士学位。1994—1996年在美国加州大学伯克利分校从事视觉心理物理学的博士后研究,1996—1999年在德国马普生物控制论研究所做访问,1999—2006年受聘于美国洛克菲勒大学任研究助理教授,2007年加入北京师范大学。长期从事视觉图像解析的神经机制研究。主持过国家973项目、国家科学基金项目、国家自然科学基金重点项目等,曾入选新世纪百千万人才工程国家级人选、领军人才和教育部。现任中国神经科学学会常务理事、认知神经生物学分会主任,中国认知科学学会理事。
结合神经电生理和心理物理(行为测量)的实验手段,研究视觉信息加工和知觉学习的神经环路机制。主要以猕猴为实验对象,采用微电极阵列记录技术,通过同时记录和解码多个脑区中神经元的活动,研究跨脑区、多层级、多线程的神经信息加工和交互过程。着重探讨以下科学问题:(1)局部的图像信息如何在神经环路中进行整合和分割,从而形成我们对全局图形的感知;(2)自上而下的认知调控因素以及情绪因素如何动态调节神经元的反应特性,从而有效处理视觉图象中与行为密切相关的信息;(3)感知训练如何优化神经编码和解码过程,从而提高感知分辨能力。
