Dr.Leptihnis an Associate Professor at Zhejiang - Edinburgh Institute (ZJE) inHaining. After receiving his PhD in Biochemistry from the Technical University of Munich in Germany,Dr.Leptihnjoined the Singapore-MIT-Alliance at the National University of Singapore (NUS) as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow where he studied the mechanism of Antimicrobial Peptides (AMPs). Using traditional biochemistry methods as well as single molecule biophysics, he studied theinteraction ofAMPs with cell membranes and artificial lipid bilayers. At the University of Oxford, he worked on artificial membrane systems, again with single molecule methods, developing a novel reconstitution method using Droplet-Interface-Bilayers. In 2011,Dr.Leptihnbecame a PI at the University of Hohenheim (Germany), focusing on the insertion and assembly of membrane proteins using single molecule methods. After hishabilitationin biochemistry, he joined the ZJE to continue his research on membrane protein complexes. Currently, theLeptihngroup focuses on membrane-embedded secretion systems, with clinical implications for disease treatment.
