张玉珍教授作为一名医学科研工作者，在美国长期致力于基础医学科学研究的同时也希望把实验室的发现应用到临床，从事动脉粥样硬化、血管损伤修复、脂质代谢和心肺发育的研究，以第一作者在Nat Genet、J Clin Invest、Circulation、Genes & Dev和Development 等国际权威杂志上发表文章，总影响因子近100分，被广泛引用，同时以优异成绩通过了美国医生资格考试 (United States Medical Licensing Examination，USMLE)，掌握了扎实的专业知识和前沿研究技术，积累的丰富的科研经验。2012年回国后主持国家重大科学基础研究计划（973）课题分课题组长，国家自然科学基金，上海浦江人才，血管稳态与重构的调控机制重大研究计划培育项目，主要参与国家自然科学基金国际合作和创新团体，从事血管损伤修复、再生、重塑，冠心病动脉粥样硬化形成和发展机制以及干细胞分裂机制的研究，以通讯作者在Circulation，Circulation research，Arterioscler Thromb Vasc Biol, Theranostics等权威杂志上发表文章。除科研以外致力于心血管疾病预防，与影像科心血管科合作收集冠脉造影病人样本库，分析冠状动脉斑块与心血管危险因素关系，为临床早期筛查高危人群提供有价值的依据；与社区合作建立老年人心血管疾病样本库，随访5年以上体检老年人，干预心血管可控危险因素，以参与者获的上海市科学进步二等奖, 以通讯作者在Aging Diseases, J Cell Mol Med等杂志发表文章。
