报告内容摘要:Nanoscale thermal radiation can significantly enhance the radiative heat flux and may have important applications in heat-to-electricity energy harvesting and electroluminescent refrigeration. In addition to thermophotovoltaic (TPV) devices, near-field thermoradiative power generator and electroluminescent refrigerator have been suggested recently. In a thermoradiative cell, electrical power is directly extracted from a semiconductor p-n junction whose temperature is higher than its surroundings; at the same time, the semiconductor diode emits photons to the surroundings. In electroluminescent refrigeration, the net radiative heat transfer is from an object at a lower temperature to an object at a higher temperature by electrically biasing a p-n junction to change the chemical potential of photons. An overview of radiative thermoelectric energy conversion devices will be given in this talk. Some simulation results on near-field enhanced electroluminescent refrigeration will be presented along with some experimental results on near-field radiation measurements.
