研究方向干细胞与神经发育
研究工作大脑发育与脑功能的分子和细胞机制。大脑是生物体内最复杂的器官之一，而这一复杂系统是由胚胎发育早期的神经干细胞发育分化而来的。因此，研究神经干细胞发生和神经元发育分化的分子机制，将有助于加深人们对大脑是如何形成的这一问题的认识。同时，在分子水平上研究脑重要功能相关基因，将有助于加深人们对大脑是如何工作的这一问题的认识。
目前从事的主要研究工作有：
1.以胚胎干细胞（ES）的体外神经分化为模型，研究多潜能干细胞神经命运决定过程中FGF、BMP和WNT信号通路间的调控网络。
2.以鸡胚神经发育为模型，研究神经诱导和神经发生过程中干细胞命运决定的分子机制。
3.神经退行性疾病的干细胞治疗。

生情况已毕业硕士研究生3人，博士研究生15人。目前在学硕士生1人、博士生11人。有8名研究生获各种奖项。指导博士生白戈同学获2009年度中科院优秀博士学位论文提名奖。
个人简介
理学博士,研究员，博士生导师。
中国科学院上海生命科学院生物化学与细胞生物学研究所常务副所长，研究组长。1978-1982年，南京大学化学系，获理学学士学位。1982-1988年，中科院上海生物化学研究所研究生，获理学博士学位。1989-1991年，日本理化学研究所博士后研究。1992-1993年，以访问学者身份赴日本理化学研究所进行合作研究。1995年，以访问学者身份在法国Strasbourg的遗传与分子细胞生物学研究所(IGBMC)进行合作研究。1996-1997年，以访问学者身份在德国Geottingen之马普生物物理化学研究所进行合作研究。2000年，以访问教授身份赴日本熊本大学进行合作研究。2003年，以访问教授身份赴日本大阪大学进行合作研究。现任中国生物化学与分子生物学学会副理事长兼秘书长；《JournalofBiologicalChemistry》、《BMCDevelopmentalBiology》、《CellResearch》、《IUBMBLife》、《生物化学与生物物理学报》、《生理学报》、《实验细胞学报》、《NeuroscienceBulletin》编委。
