Dr. Lushan (Sarina) Sun serves as an Assistant Professor in Design at the Institute of Textiles and Clothing (ITC) of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Previously, she has worked at Auburn University in the US as an Assistant Professor in Apparel Product Management.
Dr. Sun has a background in both traditional and modern technology-driven wearable product design and development. Considering the potential impact and advancements of various emerging technologies, she currently aims to integrate Direct Digital Manufacturing technologies to improve the efficiency and sustainability of the fashion supply chain. Her research topics are interdisciplinary in nature and fall within the realm of human-computer interaction (HCI), including 2D/3D CAD and Ai technologies, the integrations of Direct Digital Manufacturing technologies, such as 3D printing (3DP) in flexible wearables, and sustainable material innovation for additive manufacturing, including bio-mass composites.
Over the years, Dr. Sun’s research and designs have been recognized through international awards, design exhibitions, and funds granted. Her research in 3D printing and HCI has since generated a positive impact in the fashion and textile design discipline through various international conference proceedings and presentations, journal publications, invited speakers, special topic seminars, journal reviewers, and track reviewers of international conferences. To maximize the benefits and explore the future of novel technologies, Dr. Sun has founded and organized a US national symposium, Future of Making: The Digital Fabrication Symposium for Designers, Makers, Users, and Educators. Dr. Sun has also since worked with renowned global companies like Autodesk and Under Armour in 3D printing integrated product design and interface education.
