Dr. Jiyun Song is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) (starting from Aug 2019). She also serves as a committee member in the Department of Geography at HKU. Before joining HKU, she worked as a postdoctoral research associate with Prof. Paul Linden (G.I. Taylor Professor Emeritus of Fluid Mechanics) in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics (DAMTP) at the University of Cambridge, UK from Jan 2017 to Jul 2019. She completed her PhD degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering at Arizona State University, US in Dec 2016 with Best PhD Dissertation Award and Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Overseas Students of Year 2016. She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Hydrology and Water Resources Engineering from Wuhan University, China in 2010 and 2012, respectively with outstanding thesis defenses.

Dr. Song has multidisciplinary research interests in urban environment, including multi-scale urban climate modeling, urban hydrological modeling, urban heat and moisture transport mechanisms, urban planning, urban greening, building energy efficiency, natural ventilation, indoor-outdoor exchanges, urban carbon dynamics, urban air quality, passive cooling design, climate change adaptation, etc. As a passionate and highly-motivated young researcher, Song is an active member of the American Geophysical Union (AGU), American Meteorological Society (AMS), International Association for Urban Climate (IAUC), UK Fluids Network - Special Interests Group: Urban Fluid Mechanics Network and Low-Energy Ventilation Network.

Interested candidates (PhD/MPhil/Postdoc) are all welcome to join Song’s group.
