Fabian Terbeck joined the Department of Urban Planning and Design as a Post-doctoral Fellow in March 2021. His research is chiefly concerned with current demographic and socioeconomic trends in urban and suburban neighborhoods as well as the underlying societal and economic processes. He uses a variety of quantitative and qualitative methods, including geospatial analysis/GIS. His article in the Journal of Urban Affairs on the impact of racial inequality and the Great Recession on suburban poverty was nominated for the prestigious Nystrom Award by the American Association of Geographers. His current research focuses on rising inequalities in megacities resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Fabian holds a BSc from the University of Muenster, a MSc from Leipzig University, and a PhD from the University of Connecticut. Before joining the University of Hong Kong, Fabian worked at various research institutes and universities in Germany and the U.S.
