BiographyProfessor Chong Yuen Yu, Connie is an Assistant Professor of the Nethersole School of Nursing, Faculty of Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. She is a registered nurse with clinical experience in medicine and pediatrics.
Professor Chong has a strong research interest in the applications of psychotherapies, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), compassion-based and mindfulness-based interventions for families of individuals with chronic health conditions. Her clinical trial has supported the notifiable benefits of an ACT-based parental asthma management programme on parental psychological well-being and childhood asthma outcomes. Professor Chong received external recognition as evidenced by a total of eight local and international academic awards, including the Faculty Distinguished Thesis Award (PolyU, Hong Kong, 2018), the Early Career Research Paper Award (Association for Contextual Behavioral Science, USA, 2018) and the Personalised Learning Programme Fellowship in Psychiatry – Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (Toronto Western Hospital, University Health Network, Toronto, Canada, 2019). Professor Chong’s research findings have been disseminated in international conferences and peer-reviewed top-tier journals, such as Pediatrics – ranked top three in the pediatric field, and her work has been featured in the American Academy of Pediatrics News, USA.
Since 2019, Professor Chong has successfully obtained various external competitive grants, including Health and Medical Research Fund (HMRF), HMRF Research Fellowship Scheme and Eidgen?ssische Technische Hochschule Zürich Research Grant to develop her research programme using ACT and compassion-based approaches. She is devoted to integrating attitudes, compassion and practices for improving one’s health and well-being through research and practice grounded in ACT, mindfulness and contextual behavioural science.
