摘要Drug-related questions are often encountered by people who are on medications or taking health supplements. However, due to various barriers, these questions remain unanswered leading to possible medication problems. The Outreach Programme organized by the School of Pharmacy at The Chinese University of Hong Kong showed that more than half (55.3%) of the drug-related problems discovered in the elderly population were associated with lack of knowledge about their medication and their state of disease. Another study released at the same year on high cholesterol patients also found that nearly 8http://aims.cuhk.edu.hk/converis/portal/Publication/0% of the patients had inadequate knowledge on the possible side effects associated with their medication. Furthermore, sensitive medical issues, such as sexually transmitted diseases, erectile dysfunction, use of contraceptive etc., are not widely discussed among the public. In a study on the use of oral contraceptive pills (OCPs) conducted by us in 2http://aims.cuhk.edu.hk/converis/portal/Publication/0http://aims.cuhk.edu.hk/converis/portal/Publication/08, more than half of the interviewees had misconceptions. With the increasing popularity of self-medication as the first-line treatment for mild diseases, together with the lack of drug knowledge, it is expected that more drug-related questions would arise in the future. In response to the expected drug information demand, a new online interactive drug enquiry system called AMPOULE (Ask My Pharmacist! - Online University-Led drug Enquiry) was established. Citizens in Hong Kong and other overseas enquirers can now pose any drug-related question through this convenient and innovative channel. Through AMPOULE (http://www.ampoule.org.hk.), pharmacists provide personalized answers to drug-related queries, hoping to reduce possible medication problems faced by the general public. We target to enhance communication between pharmacists and the general public through innovative channels. The demand of drug information is expected to rise with more well-educated enquires. Enquirers expect fast and efficient professional assistance for their drug-related problems. The traditional pharmacist consultation in the pharmacy may not be sufficient to fulfill enquirers' demands. Innovative media is necessary to improve the delivery of drug information. It is hoped that the public awareness on proper medication use and safety can be enhanced by providing proper drug knowledge, thus improving the overall effectiveness of drug treatment. In this book chapter, the following objectives will be achieved: 1. Difference of various drug information delivery will be compared; 2. Factors affecting drug information delivery will be discussed; 3. Experiences in developing online drug information platform will be shared; 4. Address the needs of drug information vary in different patient populations. ? 2http://aims.cuhk.edu.hk/converis/portal/Publication/012 Nova Science Publishers, Inc. All rights reserved.
