摘要Aims: To study the effects of auriculotherapy using magnetic pellets, its usefullness within Rogers' framework, and the adoption of such therapy as a therapeutic nursing alternative for expanding the repertoire of interventions available for improving the quantity and quality of sleep among elderly people. Methods: 12http://aims.cuhk.edu.hk/converis/portal/Publication/0 participants, aged 6http://aims.cuhk.edu.hk/converis/portal/Publication/0 years or older, experiencing sleep disturbances, were recruited from 12 hostels for the elderly in Hong Kong, Eligible participants were randomly allocated to receive auriculotherapy using junci medulla (group A = 3http://aims.cuhk.edu.hk/converis/portal/Publication/0), semen vaccariae (group B = 3http://aims.cuhk.edu.hk/converis/portal/Publication/0), or magnetic pearls (group C = 6http://aims.cuhk.edu.hk/converis/portal/Publication/0) Groups A and B were the control groups while group C was the experimental group. Seven auricular points thought to have an effect of promoting sleep were selected. The treatment course lasted 3 weeks. Results: A significant improvement in sleep behaviour was observed in the experimental group treated with magnetic pellets as compared to the control groups. Conclusions: Auriculotherapy using magnetic pellets is an effective means of improving the quantity and quality of sleep among elderly people. The environmental energy created by the effect of magnetic pellets is thought to have properties similar to the energy fields described in the Science of Unitary Human Beings theory. ? 2http://aims.cuhk.edu.hk/converis/portal/Publication/0http://aims.cuhk.edu.hk/converis/portal/Publication/07 Scientific Communications International Limited.
