摘要This study determined the physiological effects on children caused by carrying different weights. Fifteen male children, aged 1http://aims.cuhk.edu.hk/converis/portal/Publication/2, were selected from a primary school to carry schoolbags of 10%, 15% and http://aims.cuhk.edu.hk/converis/portal/Publication/20% of their own body weights, and no load, ie 0%, was used as a control. VO(http://aims.cuhk.edu.hk/converis/portal/Publication/2)max was measured on a motorised treadmill using a continuous incremental protocol. In the load carriage test, subjects walked at 1.1m/sec for http://aims.cuhk.edu.hk/converis/portal/Publication/20min on the treadmill. Heart rate and the air expired were recorded with a cardiopulmonary function system before, throughout and until five min after the walk. There was an increase in energy expenditure between 10% and http://aims.cuhk.edu.hk/converis/portal/Publication/20% of body weight loads but no difference in cardiovascular responses among all load conditions. 60% of the maximum heart rate of children of the same age was obtained at different load conditions among the subjects. A steady state of energy cost was achieved 5min after walk had begun and was maintained during the walk over time for all load carriage. Ten percent of body weight is recommended as the weight of schoolbags for children because it does not significantly increase the metabolic cost of walk.
