BiographyDr. Junzhang Ma joined the department of physics, City University of Hong Kong as an assistant professor in the January of 2021. He got the degree of Doctor of Phylosophy in 2017 from institute of physics (IOP), Chinese Academy of Science after finishing the PhD research in Prof. Hong Ding’s group. Before that he obtained Bachelor's Degree from department of physics in Jilin University. He furthered his research career as a joint postdoctoral fellow in Swiss Light Source, Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) and école Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland supported by Prof. Ming Shi (Senior Scientist, PSI Director Assistant) and Prof. Jo?l Mesot (current President of ETH, and former Director of PSI, former Proffessor of EPFL).?
Dr. Ma’s research mainly focuses on electronic structure of topological materials, superconductivity, low-dimensional materials, and correlated materials, studing by Angle Resolved Photoemission Spectroscopy (ARPES). His current research interests contain: 1) electronic structure of topological materials including Dirac/Weyl semimetal, topological insulator, axion insulator, and topological superconductor, 2) unconventional superconductor, 3) coexistence of magnetic order with topological or superconducting states, 4) correlated systems: polaron and charge/spin density wave (CDW/SDW), trions, excitons, other new quantum phenomena induced by electron-boson coupling effect in low dimensional materials.
Dr. Ma has more than 30 publications in high-impact journals, e.g., 1 in Nature, 2 in Nature Physics, 3 in Science Advance, 2 in Nature Communications, 2 in Physics Review X, 6 in Physics Review Letter, 1 in Advance Materials, 2 in Nano letter, 5 in PRB, etc. These works include many breakthrough researches such as the discoveries of Weyl semimetal, three component Fermion, Hourglass Fermion, fluctuated magnetic Weyl Fermion, mobile excitons in 1-D metal, etc.
