Bio
Alam Md. Mahbub is a professor at the Shenzhen Graduate School of Harbin Institute of Technology (China) since 2012. He worked as a senior lecturer at the University of Pretoria (South Africa), research and postdoctoral fellows at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and lecturer at the Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (Bangladesh). He received MEng and PhD degrees from Kitami Institute of Technology, Japan, in 2001 and 2004, all in Mechanical Engineering. More than 180 technical articles are authored and co-authored, including 66 journal papers, most of which have been published in the top-notched journals, including Journal of Fluid Mechanics, Journal of Fluids & Structures, Physics of Fluids, Physical Review E, Journal of Sustainable and Energy Reviews. Seven of the journal papers got positions in the lists of ‘TOP 25 hottest articles’ and one paper has got a position in TOP 1% highly cited articles in 2016 by THOMPSON REUTERS as of Science Indicator. He is the author of two books and 15 chapters in books. He has edited a special issue in ‘Wind and Structures, an International Journal’ and a conference proceeding published in Research publishing, Singapore. He has delivered 10 Keynote speeches at international conferences. His research has mostly involved fluid dynamics around single and multiple cylinders, flow-induced vibrations, fluid-structure interactions, airfoil aerodynamics, renewable energy, and flow controls. He has secured a total of RMB8 million research funding from national and international levels.

Prof Alam has received a number of awards: Japan Government Scholarship (monbusho) for Masters and PhD studies; JSPS (Japan Society for Promotion of Science) Postdoctoral fellowship; South Africa National Research Foundation (NRF) rating ‘Promising Young Researcher, Y1’; Shenzhen High-Level Overseas Talent; Shenzhen High-Level Professional; 2015 Shenzhen Outstanding Teacher; and 2016 HIT Creative Talent Teacher. He has also received 05 best paper awards from different conferences. He is an editorial board member of ‘Wind and Structures, an International Journal’ and Chief Topic Editor of Frontiers: Bluff-Body Aerodynamics and Fluid-Structure Interactions. He has been acting as a reviewer for the top-level journals, e.g., Journal of Fluid Mechanics, Journal of Fluids and Structures, Experiments in Fluids, Physics of Fluids, Ocean Engineering, International Journal of Heat and Fluid Flow, Journal of Sound and Vibrations, Journal of Wind Engineering and Industrial Aerodynamics.

Specialized Area
Wind turbine, bluff body aerodynamics, wind load on structures and its control, fluid-structure interactions, flow-induced vibrations, aero- and hydroelasticity,
dynamics, nonlinear dynamics, signal analysis and computational fluid dynamics. This research is related to and is of interest to the power-generating industry,
building engineering, offshore mechanics, and the aeronautical industry; but other components of the research are longer-term, fundamental investigations, with no
immediate industrial motivation. In terms of practical applications, this research is related to building aerodynamics, wind-turbine and aircraft engineering, risers in the oil and gas industry, nuclear reactors, piping and towed underwater vehicles and so on.
