研究领域全球变化生态学：从物种到生物群区尺度的气候－植被关系，中国植被和植物种对气候变化与CO2浓度升高的响应，中国东北样带(NECT)的全球变化研究，生物量、净第一性生产力和碳储量综合、模拟与预测研究，气候变化和全球背景下的中国陆地生态系统碳循环模拟，气候变异性对植被的影响及其反馈，植物功能性状、植物功能型、生物群区与气候变化。

古生态学：中国、北方和西北干旱区、青藏高原、中亚和北亚地区古植被演变，孢粉数据的生物群区化与古植被、古气候定量重建，植物性状与古植被、古气候重建。

植被生态学：植物群落分类与描述，植被空间格局与时间动态，物种多样性与生产力关系，大尺度植物种多样性模拟，生态地理区划，生态土地分类与区划，植物性状与大气候的关系。
招生信息从2012年起，在中国科学院地球化学研究所（贵阳）招收硕士和博士研究生各1名，研究方向：喀斯特植被生物地球化学循环、中国古植被研究等全球变化生态学方向。
