PROFILE
Professor of biochemical engineering and biomass engineering with expertise in biotechnology for biomass utilization,bio-downstream processing, especially the integration of fermentation and in-situ goal product recovery.
PRICIPAL ACHIEVEMENTS
1.Since 2000, 26 journal papers published in both English such as Journal of Colloid & Interface Science, Separation & Purification Technology and Chinese journals, 6 papers published in international conferences, and 1 patent granted.
2.As the project manger, I had been awarded research funding of RMB 5.2 million from both government and industry during 1996-1999 in China.

4. Member of Editorial Board of Chinese Journal of Antibiotics.

2004.9-present, China Agricultural University: Deputy Director of Center for Biomass Engineering, China Agricultural University
1.Biotechnology for biomass utilization including innovative hydrolysis of lignocellulose, genetic engineering, metabolic engineering, in-situ product removal continuous membrane bioreactor for the production of bioethanol and lactic acid from crop residues.
2.Engineered bacteria for the production of biogas.
3.Pelletising technology for the production of biofuel from crop residues and Chinese Medicine dregs
4.Surface chemistry and membrane technology in bioprocesses.
5. Biosurfactant and environmental biotechnology
2003.1-2004.7, University of Oxford: Postdoctoral Research Fellow
6. Developed membrane bioreactor technology for tissue engineering and the novel biocompatible biodegradable hollow fibre membrane as scaffold.
7.Established an immobilized submerged membrane bioreactor system coupled with continuous in-situ recovery of fermentation product to provide significantly reduced cost for the production of bioproduct such as lactic acid.
2000.2-2002.3, the University of Hong Kong: Research Associate
1.Studied on interaction between polysaccharide and pharmaceutical molecules for controlling the negative effects of biopolymers in bioseparation.
2. Conducted membrane filtration (UF-RO) for antibiotic wastewater treatment and recovery of antibiotics.
3. Completed the research work for my Ph. D degree.
1992-1999, Tianjin University: Associate Professor
1.Investigated hybrid membrane separation technique to solve emulsion problem during solvent extraction of antibiotics and improve fermentation product yield and quality. The achievement was patented in China (Isolation and Purification of Penicillin G, patent No.1052727).
2.Bioremediation of oil contaminated soil.
3. Contributed to fractionate polysaccharide using ultrafiltration.
4. Optimized isolation and purification of naturoceuticals.
5. Integrated modern unit operations to improve Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).
