The forward problems, when solved by integral equations, require the elastic Green's function, which is a second order tensor and complicated to evaluate. In this talk, by introducing the Helmholtz decomposition, we split the elastic wave field into the compressional wave and shear wave. The two different waves satisfy Helmholtz equations separately and are only coupled at the boundary of the obstacle. It greatly reduces the complexity of the problem as the singular integrals involving the Green's function of Helmholtz equations can be efficiently evaluated. The well-posedness and numerical discretization of the coupled system, as well as its applications to the multi-particle scattering, inverse scattering for elastic wave problems will be discussed in this talk. | | | |
