Georgina Bornis a professor of music and anthropology at the University of Oxford. Earlier, she worked as a musician with avant-garde rock, jazz and improvising groups. Her work combines ethnographic and theoretical writings on music, sound, television and digital media. Her books include”Rationalizing Culture: IRCAM, Boulez and the Institutionalization of the Musical Avant-Garde,” “Western Music and Its Other: Difference, Representation, and Appropriation in Music,” and “Uncertain Vision: Birt, Dyke and the Reinvention of the BBC.” She has been a visiting professor at the University of California, Berkeley, the University of California, Irvine, and McGill, Hong Kong, Oslo and Aarhus universities.
