Dr. Rebecca Rainof received her Ph.D. in English from Princeton University in 2008. Her research and teaching interests span Victorian literature, Modernism, the intersection of art and literature, novel studies, Victorian religious writing, gender and authorship, as well as the personal essay and memoir. She is the author of The Victorian Novel of Adulthood?(Ohio UP, 2015), which charts an alternative novelistic tradition to the?bildungsroman, narratives of midlife. Her current book project,?Van Gogh and the Victorians, explores Van Gogh’s devotion to Victorian literature, discussing how adaptation as an art form evolved alongside changes in print culture and art exhibition. Courses at Princeton include “Writing about Family” (ENG 387), “Coming-of-Age Literature” (ENG 214), “Word and Image” (ENG 343), and the department’s graduate Seminar on Pedagogy (ENG 581). Teaching and research have been supported by grants and fellowships including a Humanities Council Magic Mini-Grant for Innovative Projects (2020), Princeton Mellon Fellowship for Faculty Innovation (2018), the Curran Fellowship, Research Society for Victorian Periodicals (2015), Faculty Research and Book Publication Grant, Catholic University (2015), Josephine De Kármán Fellowship (2007), the Harold W. Dodds Honorific Fellowship at Princeton University (2006). Prior to joining the Princeton faculty, Professor Rainof worked at Catholic University in Washington DC as Associate Professor of English with tenure, where she served as Director of Graduate Studies and Job Placement Officer.
