Overview

Andrew J. Gerber is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at CUMC in the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. He also serves as medical director for the Austen Riggs Center in Stockbridge, Massachusetts.Dr. Gerber completed his medical and psychiatric training at Harvard Medical School, Cambridge Hospital, and Weill Cornell Medical College. He served as chief resident at Payne Whitney Clinic at Weill Cornell Medical College . He was also chief resident in child psychiatry at the combined Columbia-Cornell NYPH training program. He completed a PhD in psychology at University College London, where he studied with Peter Fonagy and Joseph Sandler, investigating the process and outcome of psychotherapy in young adults. He trained as a research fellow with Bradley Peterson at the New York State Psychiatric Institute in brain imaging and child psychiatry. His principal interests and research lie in studying the neurobiological bases of social cognition, particularly in relation to autism spectrum disorders and change in response to psychotherapy.
