Overview

Beth Maletz, DNP, has been working in children's mental health for over 17 years. As a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, Beth's experience includes working with children and families in the foster care and juvenile justice systems, residential, inpatient, and partial care, and community mental health. Since joining Columbia's Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Division in 2011, Beth has worked in the Integrated Mental Health Program. In this capacity, she provides psychiatric care for children and families within the Washington Heights Family Health Center pediatric primary care clinic. Beth further provides clinical consultation for the pediatric providers to support their improved identification of mental health issues and serves as a liaison to ensure continuity and appropriate care in schools and outside agencies.
Dr. Maletz's doctoral research focused on integration of mental health in pediatric primary care and promoting positive parenting among parents of young children at risk for developmental, emotional, and behavioral difficulties. This directly informed her own clinical work, and she remains active in multidisciplinary task forces aiming to better address Maternal Depression and the psychosocial needs of children age 0 through 5 in Columbia's Ambulatory Care Network. Beth is also an active participant in a city-wide learning collaborative focused on promoting the health and well being of vulnerable young children and families.
Since joining the Columbia University School of Nursing's Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program in 2017 as an adjunct professor, Beth has progressed into a full-time faculty member. In this role, Beth teaches multiple courses and supports students in obtaining their DNP degrees and preparing for their transition to independent psychiatric providers.
