Dr. Joanna Steinglass is a Professor of Psychiatry at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, and the Associate Director of the Eating Disorders Research Clinic at NYSPI/CUIMC. Dr. Steinglass graduated from Amherst College, and received her M.D. from Harvard Medical School. She completed her psychiatry training at NYSPI/Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr.Steinglass’ research aims to advance health of patients with Anorexia Nervosa through investigation of the neural mechanisms of illness and the development of mechanism-based treatments. The current focus of her work is to relate neural circuits with the maladaptive behaviors central to Anorexia Nervosa, namely maladaptive restrictive eating. Her group has demonstrated abnormalities in neural systems involved in decision-making, and have identified links between neural findings and maladaptive behavior. Dr. Steinglass has developed and tested novel behavioral and medication treatment approaches to the treatment of Anorexia Nervosa.Areas of Expertise / Conditions Treated

Dr. Steinglass currently conducts clinical research in anorexia nervosa. Her research aims to elucidate the neural mechanisms of anorexia nervosa, and to develop treatments to better prevent relapse. She is investigating the cognitive neuroscience of anorexia nervosa. Her work focuses on the link between neural mechanisms and salient behavioral disturbances for individuals with anorexia nervosa.Clinical Trials
