Overview

Dr. Joanna Steinglass is a Professor of Psychiatry at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, and the Associate Director of the Eating Disorders Research Clinic at NYSPI/CUIMC. Dr. Steinglass graduated from Amherst College, and received her M.D. from Harvard Medical School. She completed her psychiatry training at NYSPI/Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr.Steinglass’ research aims to advance health of patients with Anorexia Nervosa through investigation of the neural mechanisms of illness and the development of mechanism-based treatments. The current focus of her work is to relate neural circuits with the maladaptive behaviors central to Anorexia Nervosa, namely maladaptive restrictive eating. Her group has demonstrated abnormalities in neural systems involved in decision-making, and have identified links between neural findings and maladaptive behavior.
