Drummer, percussionist, and musicologist?Galen DeGraf is doctoral fellow in music theory at Columbia University.?He is a teaching assistant in music theory and music humanities, as well as a member of the editorial board for the journal?Current Musicology.
He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Wesleyan University in 2009, where he received high honors in music for his thesis "Situating Salsa through Tito Puente's Life and Music," as well as?the Leavell Memorial Prize from the World Music Program. His current interests include music analysis, rhythm, improvisation, jazz, Afro-caribbean ("salsa") music, and non-Western music (esp.?solkattu, the spoken rhythms of South India).
