Overview

The Carlson laboratory used genetic and molecular analysis in yeast to identify and elucidate conserved mechanisms of signal transduction and transcriptional regulation, notably the SNF1/AMPK protein kinase pathway and the SWI-SNF chromatin-remodeling complex. The lab identified the first activating kinases for SNF1/AMPK: three yeast kinases and the mammalian kinases LKB1, CaMKK, and TAK1, which activate AMPK.
