Andrew Hafitz has edited some of the most acclaimed films of New York independent cinema, including The Last Days of Disco (Whit Stillman); Bully (Larry Clark); Keane (Lodge Kerrigan), recently re-released in 4K; and a perennial of LBGTQ+ Top Ten lists, Naz & Maalik (Jay Dockendorf). His work has appeared in leading festivals all over the world, including Cannes, Berlin, Venice, Toronto, New York, and SXSW. Seven of his films have premiered at Sundance.
Informed by strong backgrounds in literature and radio, Hafitz brings both an intellectual rigor and a musical sensibility to his craft. His extensive experience cutting documentary has taught him how to re-imagine footage and story. Perhaps most importantly, his intense desire to make a director’s vision become cinematic reality has made him a valued and trusted collaborator to such filmmakers as Brad Anderson, Braden King, and Mary Harron.
He has mentored young filmmakers in affiliation with a variety of institutions, including NYU, Columbia, SVA, the Manhattan Edit Workshop, the Independent Feature Project, and the Creative Coalition. A graduate of Yale with a degree in comparative literature, Hafitz is passionate about telling stories in film language that is articulate yet emotional. He lives in the Flatiron district of Manhattan and Willow, NY, with his wife, Robin, and two of the sweetest dogs in the world, Munjebel and Eighmey.
