Andy Bienen received a BA from New York University, an MA from the University of Virginia, and an MFA in Film from Columbia University School of the Arts. Bienen's feature screenplay,?Wankers, won the Best Screenplay Award at the 1996 Polo/Ralph Lauren Columbia University Film Festival. Bienen co-wrote?Boys Don't Cry?with Kimberly Peirce '96, director of the film. The film was nominated for and won numerous awards, including the FIPRESCI and Best Screenplay awards at the Stockholm International Film Festival, the Audience Choice Award at the St. Louis International Film Festival, the European Film Award, the Grand Prix Asturias at the Gijón International Film Festival, and the Best First Screenplay awards at the Independent Spirit Awards.?
