Writer-director Katherine Dieckmann’s most recent feature film,?Strange Weather, starring Holly Hunter and Carrie Coon, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and opened theatrically in 2017. Known for her lyrical, character-driven work, Dieckmann’s previous features include?A Good Baby?(2000), which was developed at the Sundance Institute’s Screenwriting and Directing labs,?Diggers?(2006) and?Motherhood?(2009). She was the originating director on Nickelodeon’s groundbreaking live action children’s serial,?The Adventures of Pete & Pete, and directed music videos for bands including R.E.M., Wilco, Aimee Mann, Everything but the Girl, Throwing Muses, and Vic Chesnutt.
Dieckmann’s?Motherhood?premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, and?Diggers?premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. Her films have also screened at the Edinburgh International Film Festival, Palm Springs International Film Festival, Chicago Film Festival, Boston Film Festival, L.A. Film Festival, Mill Valley Film Festival, Hamptons International Film Festival, Ashland Film Festival, Houston Cinema Arts Festival, Provincetown Film Festival and the Film Society of Lincoln Center’/IFP’s Independent Visions series. She has been a Creative Advisor for the Sundance Institute’s Screenwriting labs, and a mentor at the IFP Narrative Lab and the Nantucket Screenwriters Colony. Most recently, she became Creative Director at Divergent Pictures, a new production company with multiple projects based in Cuba. Dieckmann has a BA in English from Vassar College, an MA in English from New York University, and studied at the Whitney Museum of American Art’s Independent Study Program. Katherine is currently in development on next feature film,?Her Bright Shadow.
