Matthew Buckingham has presented solo exhibitions at the Brooklyn Museum, New York; Camden Arts Centre, London; Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, Madrid; Dallas Museum of Art; Hamburger Bahnhof Museum für Gegenwart, Berlin; the Kitchen, New York; Kunstmuseum, St. Gallen; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Denver; Museum Moderner Kunst, Vienna and the St. Louis Art Museum among others.

He has been a resident at Artpace, San Antonio; the DAAD Artist-in-Berlin Studio Program; The Freund Teaching Fellowship, Washington University, St. Louis; IASPIS International Program for Visual Artists, Stockholm and The Arts Institute at the University of Wisconsin Madison. He has received fellowships and grants from Art Matters, New York; the New York Foundation for the Arts; the New York State Council on the Arts and the Louis Comfort Tiffany Award, New York.
Born in Nevada, Iowa, Matthew Buckingham studied at the Art Institute of Chicago, received a BA from the University of Iowa, an MFA from Bard College and attended the Whitney Independent Study Program. He taught at the Malm? Art Academy of Lund University, Sweden, from 2003 to 2010 and has been a visiting artist at over thirty universities, art schools and art academies internationally. He lives in New York City.
