Michelle Orange is the author of This Is Running for Your Life: Essays (Farrar, Straus & Giroux, 2013), which was named a best book of the year by The New Yorker, and Pure Flame: A Legacy (FSG, 2021). She is a contributing editor and columnist at the Virginia Quarterly Review and is the 2020 winner of their Staige D. Blackburn award for nonfiction. Her writing has appeared in Harper’s, The Nation, Bookforum, The New Yorker, The New York Times, Slate, Frieze, 4 Columns, and other publications. She also teaches in the graduate MFA program at Goucher College.
