Steven is a Professor in the Columbia University School of the Arts, where he runs the MFA Theatre Management & Producing Program and serves as Co-Director of the T Fellowship for Creative Producers, which he founded with Harold Prince. He is also on the faculty of the Theatre Program at Barnard College, where he teaches History and Practice of Producing, and at Columbia Law School, where he has been teaching the Seminar in Law & Theatre for more than 20 years.? Steven is the first graduate of Columbia’s dual degree JD/MFA program and a member of the New York State Bar.? He is a co-Author of Theatre Law: Cases and Materials, the first ever law school textbook specifically devoted to theatre law, and a contributor to the theatre volume of Entertainment Industry Contracts, published by LexisNexis.
Through his company, Snug Harbor Productions, Steven general manages and/or produces on and off Broadway, around the United States and internationally.? His most recent producing credits include the Off-Broadway production of?Fiddler on the Roof in Yiddish?(Drama Desk Award); Arthur Miller’s?Death of a Salesman?(starring Wendell Pierce and Sharon D. Clarke) and?The American Clock?in London; and the Broadway and touring productions of?The Band’s Visit, winner of 10 Tony Awards including Best Musical. Steven has consulted for numerous not-for-profit arts institutions, including New York Stage & Film, the Barrow Group, Rattlestick Playwrights Theatre, the Apollo Theatre Foundation, Cambodian Living Arts and Peter Brook’s CICT. Earlier in his career, Steven served as Company Manager for several Broadway productions and, for Walt Disney Theatrical Productions, Steven managed?The Lion King?from its out-of-town tryout in Minneapolis through its first year on Broadway.? Steven is a member of the Broadway League, and he serves as a member of the Board of Directors and Treasurer of the Off-Broadway League.
