Biography

My career started at Lamont in 1980-84 and I returned in 2013 as Professor of Biogeosciences. Originally trained as a microbial ecologist, I evolved to oceanography and ocean biogeochemistry. Throughout my career I have worked in large interdisciplinary programs: first Warm Core Rings, 1981-86, then JGOFS, 1988-98 and Palmer, Antarctica Long Term Ecological Research, 2002-20. My specific research involves the carbon dynamics of bacterioplankton in ocean plankton systems I have mentored 9 Ph.D. students and 5 MSc students at 4 different institutions.
