Biography

Sonya is a Fellow in the American Academy of Microbiology. A microbial oceanographer, she studies how marine microbes interact with each other and their environment, using molecular level tools to study the intersection of microbial physiology and biogeochemistry. This research provides advanced training opportunities for undergraduates, graduate students, and postdoctoral scholars and it is also used as a framework for the development and implementation of inquiry-based educational activities for children.
