Gillian Gualtieri is a Term Assistant Professor of Sociology at Barnard College. Her research and teaching interests include race/ethnicity, gender, creative industries, arts and culture, and organizations. Recent research at these intersections has been published in Poetics, Social Problems, and Sociological Forum, among other venues. Her current research project focuses on the study of ethnoracial and gender inequality in American fine dining, uncovering the mechanisms by which bias is embedded in the practices, values, and norms of an elite cultural field. She also maintains an active research agenda in cultural policy and works collaboratively on projects related to inequality, especially gender inequality, in the arts. Professor Gualtieri received her BA in Sociology and English Literature from Kenyon College and her PhD in Sociology from the University of California, Berkeley, and she completed postdoctoral fellowships at both Vanderbilt University and New York University prior to joining Barnard.
